Puppy Power - Let's Get Sketchy

Let's Get Sketchy has a new sketch up for you all to play with today! I have to admit, this sketch was really difficult for me to work with. I am not used to doing my pages so symmetrical. I guess I like to make my pages more uneven and messy....lol  The more I look at the page the more I am liking it and I always love a good challenge.
I decided to scrap some pictures of our new puppy, she is sooo cute! I made my own cut file for the title on my Cameo Slihouette, 1st time I've made my own. I also did some sewing which I very rarely ever do. This page may not be of my normal style but it was fun challenging myself to try some different things.

The title is a cut file I made and I also cut a shadow of it.

In His Footsteps - Red Carpet Studio

There is a new challenge up today over at Red Carpet Studio. The movie for this challenge is Billy Madison. This movie follows a man who has grown up in the life of luxury without any responsibilities and in his quest to go back to school he earns his diploma without any help from rich relatives. The challenge is to create a project that uses "back to school" supplies such as paint, coloring, spray ink, stamps, etc.
Yay, may favorite kind of challenge, to get messy!! I used lots of mists and some Gesso and stamping on the background Core'dinations paper which I sanded to distress the page up even more. Added lots of layers under this picture of my son and daughter that I absolutely love. My daughter is following my son and wearing his cap last year after his graduation ceremony. I couldn't ask for a better son and big brother for her to follow after "in his footsteps".

Core’dinations Design Team Call

Hey, did you know that Core'dinations Cardstock is doing a design team call? I've been using Core'dinations Cardstock for about 6 years now and love it. Most of you know how I love to get messy with some distressing and multi media. Well the Core'dinations Cardstock is perfect for that. You can sand it, tear it, emboss it to create so many different looks.
Have you ever used Core'dinations before? If so, what are your favorite ways to use it? I use it mostly for making cards and layouts, as those are what I like to do the most. It also works great for altered items as well.

Here is a layout and some cards I made recently using mainly Core'dinations on them. I really like how they turned out. Also a small tutorial on how I made the flowers from Core'dinations Cardstock.

A Bright and Cheery Birthday Card

On this card I used the Core Essentials Collections and the Whitewash Collection. On the Whitewash I embossed it and then sanded over the top of it to create the 2 toned look.

 Just A Note

On this one I used both sides of the Black Magic Collection. I crinkled and then sanded over the folded areas of the cardstock. Also did some stamping and some wet embossing.

  Giggles, Laughs

I used the Core Essentials and the Chocolate Box Collection. Sanded, tore, crinkled and used some Modeling Paste too. The embellishments and patterned papers are all misc. items from my stash except for the flowers that I made using the Core Essentials.

Wanna know how I made those cute flowers? Here are some step by step instructions on how to make them.

My layout was based from the My Creative Sketches

Thank you for stopping by, I hope you have a great day!

Thank you card - CCC Digi Creations

Today I have a card to share with you all that I did for my 1st design team reveal at CCC Digi Creations. The challenge is to use charms or pins along with a digi image on a project.
Stargazer lilies are my favorite flowers so when I saw this digi image by the sponsors Delicious Doodles of this fortnightly challenge, I just had to use it. I airbrushed the lilies and colored the rest of the card with Copics.

Cruisin' - Let's Get Sketchy

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Today I have a layout I did using the brand new sketch at Let's Get Sketchy that is up on their blog today. I had some fun with die cuts using my Cameo on this page.

To create my background the 1st thing I did was cut out a 12x12 wave background with my Cameo onto some cardstock.

I placed the die cut over a piece of white cardstock to create a stencil and then using an old credit card (the kind of credit card you use is up to you, I like to use the maxed out ones...lol) I spread a thin uneven layer of Gesso over my die cut. Don't worry about making it completely covered in all the cut out areas. Leaving it uneven helps with the next step.

Remove the die cut stencil before the Gesso dries and to speed things up you can use a heat tool to help dry the Gesso. After the Gesso is dry I used a large paint brush I got my paper really wet so that I could actually see puddles of water on my page.  Then got another paint brush really wet and started randomly brushing some watercolor paints all over my background and the Gesso making sure the water color puddles up in some areas to create an even effect. Dry with your heat tool

Spray with some Pearl like mists and you will have something that looks like this.

Some more close up pictures of the completely page.

Here is the awesome sketch my page was inspired from.

Creative Blog Tour

Good morning, I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I'm excited to be a part of the Creative Blog Tour. I have never been involved in one before. Thank you soooo much Melissa for asking me to join in. If you haven't already, make sure to check out Melissa's blog too, I love her work!

1. What am I working on?
Right now I am working on a DT page using the Cameo. I recently have brought out my die cut machines, dusted them off and started using them again. I am really enjoying them. I forgot how much fun they can be! I am really loving being able to cut out my own titles.

2. How does my work differ from others of its genre?
My style I would say is eclectic but the one thing that I have on almost all of my pages is some kind of paint, mists, ink, gesso or modeling paste. My pages are just not complete unless I make some kind of a "mess" on them. I tend to either use bold bright colors or really dark grungy colors. I love grungy!

3. Why do I write/create what I do?
Every since I was a kid I used to keep everything, tickets to concerts, newspapers clipping from the sports teams I was on, invitations, little things from school dances, basically anything and everything that I felt was a type of a memorabilia. Back then I used to just tape the items with scotch tape or used a glue stick to stick the things down into a scrapbook.....Ugh! that was such a bad idea but I didn't know back then. After school I pretty much stopped scrapping till after my son was born. I wanted to document his childhood in something other then just your typical baby book. I now have a son and daughter and they both are my inspiration for scrapbooking. I want them to have something that I made for them and to be able to share with their kids someday.

4. How does your writing/creating process work?
Most of the time I start with the pictures and then find the papers and embellies that best match. Unless it's a collection that I am dying to play with then I will start with that and then search through all my pictures to find the perfect ones to go with it. Once I have paper and pictures picked out I make a mess out of my background paper and then I start cutting and layering my papers up. I don't glue anything down until I am sure I like how it looks 1st. I almost always have way too many embellishments out but ya just never know what ya may need.  I am a very slow scrapper and it takes me forever to make up my mind if I like the page or not. It's quite common for me to just leave the page, come back to it the next day and then decide if I still like it before sticking anything down. I might have some slight OCD issues...lol

Here are the creative blogs/blogger I have tagged. They will be sharing more about themselves next Monday - August 11th on their blogs. Make sure to stop by and show them some love!

I first met Devra at My Scraps & More but got to know her better once I joined Let's Get Sketchy. Devra has a playful scrappy style that I really love.

I've been paper scrapping since I received my first scrapbook for my birthday in 1998. I love how the hobby continues to evolve, giving me reason to try new things, and evolve as well. If I had to describe my style, I'd say "adaptable". I enjoy trying the new trends and techniques (some more than others) and like to see how I can make them work for me. I am the Family Manager to my two boys, my husband who has his own music collection that rivals my scrap collection, and our dog, a yellow lab named Snickers. Pretty much nothing happens in this family without me! They all are the primary subjects on my pages. I am never at a loss for new material with these guys. Me? I also read, enjoy long walks with my dog, a night out with my friends, live for baseball season, and am always dreaming of the beach.

Lynn Shaffer
Lynn I also met at Let's Get Sketchy. She has such a fun scrappy style and I always love her use of embellishments and all her layering of papers on her pages.

My Name is Lynn Shaffer. Here is a little about me, I am the proud mommy to 3 beautiful children, whom are the inspirations for almost all of my layouts. I am married to the love of my life Dave, who supports me and my addiction to paper. I am energetic, bubbly and a little on the fun crazy side. As well, I have been fortunate to be surrounded by an amazing set of ladies who have enabled me and my love of crafting. Recently I have begun to teach classes at my local scrapbooking store SGD. I also work full time for 3M Canada.
I began scrapbooking in the summer of 2009 during my second maternity leave. My goal, originally, was to document my kids, their growth and preserve those precious memories. But I soon fell in love with the creative process, and my pages will have a lot of hidden journaling. My style is … well I have various styles from a clean to linear to shabby chic, I am now getting into mix media. From a creative perspective, I love inking, layering, distressing, masking, fussy cutting, matting, stamping and.. ok there is not too much I don't like to do. Sketches play a huge part of my creative process. I find scrapbooking and crafting very calming and therapeutic. I am a paper hoarder. I will be honest. Papers are my passion. I have a hard time using it at times, so I buy double. Ok who am I kidding, if I see, I will love it, and smell it, and drool over it and then hide it in the special paper drawer to oogle over it later.

Thank you so much for stopping by and I always love the sweet comments you all leave for me.
